Finally, always read over your application essay with a fine-tooth comb. You want to be sure that you're including all of the specific details regarding your application, but there are some details that are most vital. The introduction of the Essay is a critical part. The introduction contains the main thesis statement and summarizes the major argument of the essay. The other parts of the essay are built on the strength of the thesis statement.
There are many guidelines for formatting a well written essay. The most important is that the introduction should be the first paragraph of the essay and the conclusion must be the last paragraph. Additional guidelines are that the thesis statement, if it is part of the introduction, should be in the top half of the page and the body of the essay should be written in this order. The use of footnotes, numbered paragraphs and lists of references in the body of the essay are all based upon formatting the introduction and conclusion correctly.
Your introduction should not be too long; three to four sentences are usually sufficient. Even so, you should strive to keep your introduction concise, to the point, and to capture the attention of the reader. One way to do this is to use proper essay formatting. A common error when writing the introduction is to use big fancy words that may seem pompous, over-the-top, or arrogant. Such language is not appropriate for an essay example.
In conclusion, writing a solid essay starts with having a strong topic sentence. It's best to choose one that has three to four words. Then you build upon that with your paragraphs and your main thesis statement. Have a plan of attack and you'll be able to write an essay that will be accepted by the admissions committee.
Essays can be written in many different ways. One method is called the content based format. In this method, all the ideas in the essay are discussed but the focus is on the content of the essay rather than the specific arguments. Another format is the argumentative format which describes the body of the essay and the various arguments presented. Finally there is the descriptive format which describes the nature of the information, the purpose of the essay and the audience. The last type is called the perspective-based format in which the author writes about his own experience and how he came to the conclusions he discusses in the essay.
