Use these tips to help craft the perfect essay. Even though you've probably been to college yourself, and you've written hundreds of essays throughout your years of college admissions, you can always do something new and fresh. Don't hesitate to take some time and think outside of the box. That's what makes an interesting essay!
Start with the research. It is very important that you find out as much as you can about the topic you wish to write an essay on. Take a look at other works of writers who have written on the topic you wish to write about. You can get some ideas from their writing while you are doing more research.
As a final note, good college application essays aren't written in a hurry. They should be written thoughtfully and thoroughly. Take your time when writing yours; don't rush through them. Essays should be between five to eight pages in length.
Your introduction should not be too long; three to four sentences are usually sufficient. Even so, you should strive to keep your introduction concise, to the point, and to capture the attention of the reader. One way to do this is to use proper essay formatting. A common error when writing the introduction is to use big fancy words that may seem pompous, over-the-top, or arrogant. Such language is not appropriate for an essay example.
The main argument in argumentative essays is usually one that is supported by at least three main points. The writer must show, through their argument, why the one point is better than the others. The writer can use many different ways to support their point of view including cherry picking, presuppositions, straw men, selective quotes and YouTube videos. The beauty of the progeria argument is that the writer does not have to rely solely on their argument to persuade the reader or the panel.
One way to help create an argumentative essay is to use a thesis statement. A thesis statement provides the central idea of your essay and links it to other paragraphs throughout the essay. The thesis also provides supporting evidence for the central idea in your essay. Students will generally write their thesis statements as a separate paragraph following the introduction of their essay. However, it may also be required that they write the thesis statement as part of the main argument of their essay.
