Unlike the expository essay, a narrative essay does not need to be descriptive. Narrative essays, however, do have to follow a logical sequence of ideas. If you want your essay to appear more formal, you can choose to include only a few real ideas. You may want to leave out any derivations and connections to other works. If you want to present your work as your own original work, it is recommended that you write your own narrative as an expository.
The thesis statement is the main focus of the essay. This is the central concept that drives all other parts of the essay. The thesis statement begins the essay and refers to why the entire argument is based upon that central idea. The purpose of the thesis is to justify and explain the reasons for the conclusion and support the main point.
After you have started the essay, don't forget to edit it. Read the essay again and try to find any grammatical errors. Have someone look at it for you. Even if it's a first draft, it will help you tremendously. Write another draft after you have had a chance to make sure you've fixed any issues you found. Have another set of eyes to look it over to make sure there are no other problems.
A thorough proofreading of any essay should not simply involve looking for grammatical errors, but checking for everything that might be taken for granted in a typical assignment. The essay must be carefully examined for coherence. An example of this would be a discussion of four different statements made in the course of an essay. One of the statements should be the central thesis statement. The other three statements could all be supporting arguments, each one providing a detailed explanation of what the first one intends to argue.
As a final note, good college application essays aren't written in a hurry. They should be written thoughtfully and thoroughly. Take your time when writing yours; don't rush through them. Essays should be between five to eight pages in length.
The first step is to do some research. You don't have to spend every spare moment researching college admissions requirements. In fact, it would be unreasonable for you to do so. However, if you're going to use your college essay as the main selling point of your application, you must understand what the college is looking for.
